Extended Conductivity Sensors & Transmitters
Conductivity measurement systems determine the electrical conductivity of liquids as a proxy for ionic concentration, purity, mixing state, and leakage or contamination events. A complete measurement loop pairs the sensor element with a transmitter that applies compensation, diagnostics, and output scaling for control and monitoring.
Multiple sensing principles are used to match conductivity range and fouling risk. Two-electrode conductive sensors are common for low conductivity and high-purity duties; four-electrode conductive sensors reduce polarization effects in higher-ion media and wider ranges; toroidal (inductive) sensors use coupled coils to measure conductivity without direct electrode contact, improving robustness in high-conductivity or coating-prone services.
The operational value is immediate feedback on concentration or purity changes, enabling tighter process control and faster detection of excursions. Certified cell constants and calibration standards support traceability, while robust process connections and compact sensor/transmitter combinations simplify integration where space, hygiene, or installation speed matters.
Applications include ultrapure water and utility water monitoring, steam/water cycle chemistry support, and CIP verification in food and beverage operations. Chemical processing and mining circuits use conductivity for acids, bases, brines, and phase-separation monitoring, while water and wastewater facilities rely on it for salinity tracking, mixing verification, and process alarms.
Engineering the measuring point typically includes temperature measurement/compensation strategy, selection of sensor type for the expected conductivity band, and installation geometry that minimizes gas entrapment and coating. Modern portfolios cover a broad range of connections and ranges, enabling consistent measurement practices across diverse unit operations.
