Servo Level Measurement

Servo level measurement is a high-precision tank gauging technology used for liquid level, interface, and density applications. It is strongly associated with inventory management and loss control where very high accuracy and traceability are required.

A small displacer is positioned in the liquid using a servo motor and suspended on a measuring wire wound onto a finely grooved drum. When the displacer contacts the liquid, buoyancy reduces its apparent weight; torque changes in the coupling are detected (e.g., via Hall sensor arrangements) and used to determine level with high resolution.

The technology is valued for measurement precision and for performance in custody transfer and inventory control environments. It is commonly aligned with industry requirements and approvals for tank gauging, supporting stringent accounting and transfer measurement expectations.

Typical applications include crude oil, gasoline, diesel, petrochemicals, and chemical storage where custody transfer accuracy is essential.
