Extended pH Sensors & Transmitters
pH sensors and transmitters form the backbone of liquid-chemistry monitoring, supporting control of acidity/alkalinity in virtually every water and process stream. pH is frequently a primary quality and safety variable, influencing corrosion, scaling, biological activity, solubility, and reaction kinetics.
Sensor selection is driven by media characteristics and mechanical risk. Glass and enamel electrodes use potentiometric measurement based on electrochemical potential governed by the Nernst relationship, offering broad applicability and strong linearity across the pH range. ISFET sensors use a solid-state transistor-based approach and are applied where glass breakage is unacceptable or where media contain significant organic solvents; enamel electrodes are commonly selected where long-term stability and minimal maintenance are prioritized.
Reliable pH measurement enables stable neutralization control, improved chemical dosing, and faster detection of abnormal conditions in both utilities and product streams. Broad portfolios typically address stable and rapidly changing compositions, sticky or coating-prone media, hazardous-area requirements, and hygienic process needs. Calibration buffers and standardized solutions support traceable measurement practices.
Applications include wastewater neutralization and biological treatment support, chemical manufacturing, food and beverage processes, pharmaceuticals, power and steam-water systems, and mining/metals circuits. pH measurement is also central to CIP/SIP verification and to process steps where small deviations can produce large quality impacts.
Measuring point design focuses on selecting the right junction and reference system, providing suitable mechanical assemblies (flow, immersion, retractable), and planning cleaning and calibration intervals. Automated cleaning and calibration systems can be integrated where measurement integrity must be maintained in aggressive or high-fouling services.
